When a child is born it brings a lot of joy to the family. There is always a sigh of relief that the birth was without danger and that the mother and child are both safe and healthy. Perhaps the greatest joy comes with the birth of the first born. In our society if there are no children born between a couple there is usually pressure on the man to divorce the "barren" woman. This is a very unfortunate situation where it is assumed that the woman is to blame for the childless situation !
Children are a gift from God and man has no control as to whom shall a child be given to. In the same vein no one has control over what gender of the child to be born shall be.
After the birth of the child the greatest challenge is to raise it to grow into a responsible adult.
Both parents are expected to look after the child by providing its requisites of life.
The baby will in its first twelve months be fed by milk fed from the mother. The milk can be purchased in cases where breast feeding is not feasible. Solid food will then be given after several months.
As the child grows it is taught how to speak a language used in the home it is brought under. In case where the parents are from different tribal or ethnic backgrounds, the couple decides which language the child will be taught.
The biggest challenge we have as parents is to bring the child in a conducive environment so that it grows into a mature human being.
This is love beyond measure !
